Wylee and Everlee- MT Jr Beef Expo Champions

The 2019 Montana Jr Beef Expo just wrapped up, and one lucky kid took home the supreme champion heifer honors. Thirteen year old Wylee Simenson calls Chinook, Montana home. When he’s not busy showing his lambs and heifers, Wylee loves listening to music, playing basketball and hanging out with best friends at shows.

We had the opportunity to ask Wylee about his big win at Expo, read all about it below.

Montana Ag: What made you know that this was the heifer for you?

Wylee: When I saw Everlee last year at the NILE, she caught my eye right away. We have been wanting to get a heifer from the Wagner family for a few years now, and I knew Everlee was our chance.

Montana Ag: What is the biggest challenge you have overcome with your heifer?

Wylee: The biggest challenge that I have had to over come with my heifer is probably getting her to lead, and getting use to the blow dryer. She doesn’t like the sounds of the blower, and it’s taken a lot of work to get her use to it.

Montana Ag: What does winning Montana Jr Beef Expo mean to you?

Wylee: Winning the Montana beef expo was a very big accomplishment for me. All the hours I spend up at the barn are paying off, and it shows what time and dedication to an animal can do.

Montana Ag: What was your reaction to the judge shaking your hand?

Wylee: Shaking the judge’s hand just put the biggest smile on my face. It made me super excited and very happy to be able to have that chance.

Montana Ag: What sets Montana Jr Beef Expo apart from other shows you have been to?

Wylee: The competition and the atmosphere of the Beef Expo are what set this show apart from any other. There are always great cattle there to compete with, and everyone has a good time hanging out with each other.

Wylee was also the reserve champion open showman, reserve champion Angus showman, and grand champion commercial showman. At the Yellowstone Classic jackpot show on Father’s Day, he and Everlee both pulled off a reserve champion win in showmanship and the heifer show. He is also currently tied for the lead in the heifer division in the Montana Ag Jackpot Championships. Wylee is definitely is hard worker with a bright future ahead of him!
